Tragedy for the Togo players
We join in the general condemnation of the terrible attack on the Togo football team during the African Cup of Nations and publish this press release by LISPED:
"LISPED (Ligue Sportive pour la Promotion et la Défense des Droits de l’Homme – League of sports to promote and defend human rights) and the Réseau africain pour la paix dans le sport (RAPS - African Network for Peace in Sport) was sickened to hear of the armed attack against the Togo national football delegation in Cabinda, Angola.
LISPED and RAPS wholeheartedly condemn this kind of act that does no honour to African football and they urge the government of Angola to increase security measures for these African festivities.
LISPED and RAPS also support the African Football Confederation (CAF) in its widespread efforts to organise this final phase and appeal for the mobilisation and awareness of all African nations to promote a spirit of fair play, non-violence and no racism to protect African values through this “Angola 2010” African Cup of Nations.
LISPED and RAPS take the opportunity to launch a message of fair play, peace, love and African brotherhood to all the nations playing in this competition: Angola, Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Gabon, Ghana, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Tunisia, Togo, Zambia."
