Kick It Out seeks European Research partner
UK FARE partner Kick It Out is seeking to appoint a research partner with experience, and/or an understanding, of conducting research within European football for a new and groundbreaking equality and diversity initiative.
1. Background
We are working with partners within European football on a project that seeks to understand and address issues of the representation of black and ethnic minority communities and women at the highest levels of football across Europe.
The project will bring together major stakeholders in the game over the next year to support and encourage industry-wide progress in the identification, recruitment and retention of talented individuals in coaching, administrative and other key areas across football.
2. Objectives of research
As part of the development of the project Kick It Out will appoint a research partner to help increase understanding of the issues through the collection of baseline data.
As a first step the partner will be asked to conduct a detailed review of existing research to determine a baseline position of the spread of women and ethnic minorities within the game, the levels at which they are involved, and identify good practice in the promotion of under- represented groups.
The possibility of a second commission to look at further research ideas will be explored on completion and presentation of the literature review.
3. Scope and Deliverables
The project will require the partner to:
> Review all recent research that has examined, or significantly referenced, issues of equality of opportunity within football at a national or European level
> Review relevant practices in the area of equality and anti- discrimination and present examples of good practice – including relevant practices from outside of Europe and how the good practices fit in with national and European level legal frameworks
> Interview at least 10 key individuals relevant to this area of practice – including administrators, NGO’s, legislators and current or former athletes
> Produce a short factual report in English that could be published in a document of no more than 20 pages, written in an accessible and engaging style
> Make a presentation of the report at a seminar in late April 2010
> Deliver the review within 4 weeks of commission
Please note: The ownership of the report will be with the commissioning agency, ie. Kick It Out, who will retain editorial control and make decisions as to format and publication.
4. Costs
Costs should be presented in a budget to include projected time to be spent on the project, travel costs and other relevant expenditure items.
5. Application process
Applications should include the following:
1. An overview of the relevant experience and expertise of the applicant organization
2. CV’s of the individual researchers to take part in the project
3. A budget proposal with a breakdown of costs
4. An overview of your methodology and delivery timeframes
5. Other information as appropriate
Decisions on appointment of the research partner will be made by a panel on the basis of proven expertise, cost estimates and ability to deliver to timeframes.
