The Black Collective of Media in Sport (BCOMS)

8 October, London

The Black Collective of Media in Sport (BCOMS) was set up in 2009 by like-minded sports media professionals to address the under-representation of black people in the media industry. BCOMS aims to be the first port of call both for black professionals in the sports media and talented newcomers looking to develop their careers.

BCOMS will be organising the D Word 3, a diversity conference attended by industry leaders from the sports media field in the United Kingdom. The D Word 3 will be a solution-based conference on how to recruit the next generation and look at which initiatives promoting greater diversity in the industry have been effective so far.

This conference will be the third D Word conference for journalists and students who are looking to join the sports media, PR practitioners, media industry diversity experts, equality campaigners and bosses across broadcast media and press. The main objective behind this conference is for these groups to work together to create deliverable goals and targets for the sports media, which will be documented and then distributed through a D Word guide.

Prior to D Word 3 Conference, BCOMS are carrying out research with the help of academics from a number of recognised institutions to analyse how diverse sports media is and its influence on football with the research findings being presented at the D Word 3 Conference.
