Football Unites, Racism Divides (FURD)

Football Unites, Racism Divides (FURD) will organise a week of activities to celebrate the 169th birthday of the world’s first black professional footballer, Arthur Wharton. They will display a Wharton exhibition on the week beginning 14th October at the U-Mix Centre, Sheffield, a screening of films about Arthur on 16th October, a heritage walk around the Sheffield United Museum and around the site of Sheffield Wednesday’s Olive Grove Ground (17th October) followed by a football tournament aimed at refugees and asylum-seekers on 19th October. Key partners are the Sheffield United Community Foundation and associated networks of UK partner clubs.
