20-22 October, Herat Province, Mazai Sharif Province, Afghanistan
Girl Power will promote access to sport and education for women and girls in undeveloped rural areas, with a workshop and a football festival.
New team-building activities will be introduced to coaches and volunteers as part of the workshop, empowering women and girls to take part in football. Local schools in the area will be brought into the project, with teachers being shown team building games and self-confidence workshops that they can use going forward.
The football festival will involve a mini football tournament and give participants a chance to put the skills learned at the practice into practice. A professional doctor will speak to the women about the benefit of taking part in sports, and a social and human rights activist will explain how it can be used as a tool for gender equality in society.
