The 5th FARE Action Week against racism and discrimination saw activities in 33 countries. Hundreds of football clubs, supporter groups, ethnic-minority initiatives, youth groups and schools participated in activities as part of the Action Week. Anti-racism events had been organised in the top leagues in England, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Romania, Serbia & Montenegro, Denmark, Slovakia, Macedonia, Belgium, The Netherlands, Scotland, Norway and Sweden. And all 16 matches of the last round in the UEFA Champions League featured symbolic action against racism.
Follow-up activities in Poland, Norway, Romania, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and Germany
Representatives from FARE had been invited from the Polish FA to the biggest football conference in Kielce, Poland, on 28 October and held presentations to the club officials.
In Norway FARE partner “Gi Rasisme Rodt Kort!” (“Show racism the red card!”) finishes the schools photo competition with a prize giving ceremony on 30 October in the Aaresen stadium of Lillistrom.
In Romania the players of Steaua Bucharest and FC National show racism the red card. The same activity is organised at Dinamo Bucharest – Apulum and Sportul Studentesc – FC Brasov.
In Austria Rapid Vienna invites the winners of the school competition “FairPlay goes Education” and presents again their banner against racism before the match against Sturm Graz.
Young Boys Bern, Switzerland, plays against FC Thun on 31 October. The fan projects “Gemeinsam gegen Rassismus” (“Together against racism”) and “Halbzeit” (“Half-time”) printed postcards with players like Stephane Chapuisat and Francisco Neri with the slogan “Together against violence and racism”. The fans will be informed by tannoy announcements, the video screen and the match day programme.
Pisa Calcio, Italy, supports FARE and features the Action Week with an article in the match day programme against Como on 31 October.
German FARE partner “Schalker Faninitiative” organised a school competition, the prize giving ceremony will be held on 13 November at FC Schalke 04 home match against Hertha BSC.
