FARE Action Week kick-off in Belgrade20 October 2004

Last weekend the FARE activities started in Serbia & Montenegro. Kick off was a press conference on Friday 15 October together with FK Partizan in Belgrade. Partizan players Pierre Boya and Ifeany Emeghara together with Michael Fanizadeh from FARE promoted the ideas of FARE. FK Partizan announced the planned activities before the kick off at the derby against Red Star. Almost all newspapers, radio stations and also sport television programmes reported.

The derby FK Partizan against Red Star Belgrade took place on 16 October at the Partizan stadium. More then 35.000 spectators joined the match, 10.000 leaflets with statements of Zoran Mirkovic (Partizan) and Milan Bis¡evac (Red Star) against racism had been distributed. During the line up, Partizan and Red Star players wore FARE T-shirts and the accompagnying kids presented a banner with the slogan: “We don’t divide black and white – we unite”. The slogan had also been shown on the video screen during the anti-racist announcement of the club. During the match Red Star fans abused the Partizan players Pierre Boya and Ifeany Emeghara twice with monkey chants. This insults had been followed by a discussion in the media.

The weekend saw also the participation of Sartid Smederevo and Rad Belgrade in the Action Week, both teams showed “racism the red card” and the players wore FARE T-shirts during line up.
