FIFA investigates Croatian fans18 August 2006

Following the report sent by FARE, FIFA told the network yesterday that they have immediately opened a disciplinary proceeding against the Croatian Football Federation,
based on art. 55 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code regarding racism.

During the international friendly between Italy and Croatia in Livorno on Wednesday, Croatian fans have arranged themselves into a Nazi symbol and showed the “Sieg Heil” salute.

The world football's governing body FIFA announced on Friday that “according to the pieces of information gathered to date, some Croatian fans formed a swastika and made the Nazi salute in the stands”.

This prompted the FIFA Disciplinary Committee to further examine this case, which could be a violation of FIFA's anti-discrimination provisions. International friendly matches come under FIFA's jurisdiction.

The Croatian FA has the possibility of replying to FIFAs letter within the next 7 days.
