Hundreds of mourners are expected to attend the funeral of Anthony Walker. The black 18-year-old Arsenal fan was brutally murdered with an axe whilst walking with his girlfriend through McGoldrick Park in Merseyside, UK, in July 2005. The police have charged two men with his murder.

The service, to be led by the Bishop of Liverpool, will be held at 12 noon, 25 August 2005 in Liverpool Cathedral. The family have asked mourners to wear their football shirts as a tribute to Anthony’s passion for football.

Previously, over 3000 people attended a candlelit procession, during which his mother gave a passionate and unplanned plea to young people. The FA, also marked the first match of the season – the charity shield between Chelsea and Arsenal, with a minutes silence in memory of Anthony.
