Incidents reported to Fare during August 2013

The following list of incidents of racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism or homophobia has been reported to Fare during August 2013. This list is only likely to reflect a proportion of the incidents that occurred.

All reports have been brought to Fare’s attention through eye- witness or media accounts. FARE has third party reporting status with UEFA, and FIFA on international matches, and at a national level we can support incident reports made by members or national partners.

1 August 2013 – UEFA Europa League: Chornomorets Odesa v Crvena Zvezda

Displays of far-right material from supporters of both sides.

Details passed to UEFA for action.

1 August 2013 – UEFA Europa League: HNK Rijeka v Zilina Celtic

A group of fans of Rijeka displayed far-right banners.

Details passed to UEFA for action.

1 August 2013 – UEFA Europa League: VMFD Zalgiris V Lech Poznan

A group from Lech Poznan singing far-right and xenophobic songs promoting the Polish expansion to Lithuania.

3 August 2013 – Germany: SV Babelsberg 03 v Lok Leipzig

Between 200 and 300 of the 800 fans of Leipzig sang right-wing songs referring to the Neo-Nazi-terrorist group NSU, and “Arbeit macht frei- Babelsberg 03” in reference to the WWII Nazi concentration camp slogan.

Several Nazi salutes and right-wing t-shirts being worn were reported.

7 August 2013 – UEFA Champions League: Legia Warszawa v Molde

The match was marked by right-wing incidents between Legia and Molde. Several far- right banners on display by Legia fans.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action.

8 August 2013 – UEFA Europa League: Dila Gori v Hajduk Split

The Split fans displayed a far-right banner during the match played in Georgia.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action.

8 August 2013 – UEFA Europa League: Lech Poznan v Zalgiris

Lech Poznan fans displayed a banner with nationalist and xenophobic content.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action, Lech Poznan charged for improper conduct of their supporters, will face a stadium partial closure during their next UEFA competition match as hosts.

17 August 2013 – Croatia: GNK Dinamo v NK Lokomotiva

At the Croatian League match between GNK Dinamo and NK Lokomotiva, the Dinamo supporters group Bad Blue Boys (BBB) chanted racist and homophobic abuse which included “HNS faggots, you have fucked up football”, “Kill, kill the Serbs”, “Mamić, you Gypsy leave the holy shrine”.

17 August 2013 – England: Port Vale v Bradford City

Port Vale launched an investigation after receiving complaints from home supporters of racist chanting from several hundred fans targeting Bradford City fans.

17 August 2013 – Hungary: Ferencvárosi TC v MTK Budapest

A banner honouring the memory of Laszlo Csatary, one of the last remaining Holocaust war crime suspects, was displayed by Ferencvárosi fans.

17 August 2013 – Romania: Steaua Bucharest v Cluj

Throughout the match a banner, with the White Power logo and a half dead skull with the text Combat 2009, was shown by a group of fans of Steaua Bucharest.

18 August 2013 – Germany: TSV 1860 München v FC Ingolstadt

The 2nd Fußball-Bundesliga FC Ingolstadt player Danny da Costa was targeted with racist chants from TSV 1860 fans.

18 August 2013 – Italy: Lazio v Juventus

During the Italian Supercup match between Lazio and Juventus, Lazio fans at Curva Nord racially abused the Juventus players, Paul Pogba, Kwadwo Asamoah and Angelo Ogbonna.

An announcement was made in the stadium to make the supporters aware of the issue. The Italian FA sanctioned the club with the closure of Curva Nord for one match.

22 August 2013 – UEFA Europa League: St Gallen v Spartak

Monkey chants from Spartak fans targeting St. Gallen black players.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action.

27 August 2013 – UEFA Champions League: Legia v Steaua Bucharest

Legia fans were reported as being involved in chanted racist chanting.

Media reports of the incident were passed to UEFA.

29 August 2013 – UEFA Europa League: Spartak Moscow v St. Gallen

Fans of Spartak displayed a far-right banner which read and chanted xenophobic songs.

Details of the incident were passed to UEFA for action.

06 September 2013 – Poland: KKS Lech Poznań

KKS Lech Poznań have been sanctioned for fans’ racist behaviour with a stadium partial closure during the next UEFA competition match the club hosts and have been fined €5,000.

The sanction relates to incidents of racism reported during the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round, second leg during the match played against VMFD Žalgiris (08/08/13).

25 September 2013 – Croatia: GNK Dinamo Zagreb

GNK Dinamo Zagreb have been ordered to play two home UEFA competition matches behind closed doors, with half of the suspension (one game) deferred for a probationary period of five years and fined €70,250 for fans racist behaviour.

The sanction relates to incidents reported during the UEFA Champions League play-off second leg played against FK Austria Wien (27/08/13) and third qualifying round first leg played against FC Sheriff (30/07/13).

Report incident
