A new photo exhibition initiated by a German fan initaitive gives insights into Ukrainean football culture. It will be launched 21 August
The Euros 2012 will take place in Poland and the Ukraine – countries not very well known to most German football fans. Long before this international event was planned, the Schalke fan initiative started to travel these countries and initiated youth exchanges.
In 1996 and 1997 they organised fan exchanges between Poland (Lech Poznan) and Germany. In 2009 a football team of the group took part at a football fan tournament in Lviv and in 2010 some members made a longer trip to Kiew, which resulted in the foundation of the first Ukrainean-German Schalke Fan Club „Ukrainisch-Deutscher Fan-Club Dawai Kroschka Schalke 04″.
The exhibition gives impressions the participants gathered, it showscases their experiences, conversations and contacts to different people and institutions in the Eastern European country. The members of the fan initiative feel privileged to have made these contacts and to have experienced so much hospitality. Hopefully the exhibition will draw attention to a fascinating country, and a very exciting football context – which is more than wondering about stadions being ready in time and the prices of hotels.
