Riot Interrupts Game25 October 2002

On Friday 25 October, Legia played Widzew in Warsaw during which the game was interrupted because of a riot. Fascists were routinely present, and they displayed a racist banner.

The deputy chairman of the FA has made a strong statement, highlighting the issue of fascist banners. He promised games would be interrupted until such banners disappear. Official sanctions against the club are expected. Earlier in the week, Michal Listkiewicz, the president of the Polish Football Association received a 27,552 signature petition and pledged to co-operate with ‘NEVER AGAIN’ in order to remove racist symbols from football stadiums.
